observations from the edge of my seat (and my personal thoughts)

If I give you $100, what would you spend it on?

Say I gave you $100 - and that's the only money you have.

What would you spend it on?

Would it be something materialistic or experiential?

Maybe the Flip camera that you want to get? A $100 to spend on iTunes? A lovely meal out with your partner? Investing in your business? The set of "Planet Earth" DVDs?

What would you spend it on?

Great experiment. I would spend my $100 on a new pen tablet, or on web hosting, or on my CD release party, Something for my Music business for sure.

Kita-Simone, What's your business and what on specifically?

Ronnie & Atul - music and beer. Best way to celebrate your last $100.

Clever investment, Matt.

I think it'd be fun to do a 99 dollar music video (http://www.99dollarmusicvideos.com). It'd be really interesting to see just what you could achieve with the budget.

And maybe a lottery ticket with the change

I would look in the CCF catelogue and see what I could buy. The items in the catelogue are for people in developing countries. One hundred dollars could buy many things. $9.00 would buy a baby chick for a family in the Gambia, so I could buy 11 of them and then just donate the extra dollar. Or I could buy 10 ducks for a family in Timor-Liste. $11.00 buys mosquito nets for children in Sierra Leone. $12.00 buys three months of fresh milk for a child in Sri Lanka. $30.00 will buy 15 grafted mango trees for a family in Kenya. Any of these gifts can be life saving. What a great way to spend $100.00

I think I'd spend it on web hosting, multiple domain names, and some ppc. Everything else you can get for free from places like clickbank. You invest in these 3, market the free products, make comissions, reinvest the profit, buy more domains (cos you can host multiple domains on one hosting), eventually create your own Ebook, market, repeat top process, donate to charities, buy a new car, buy lots of beer, enjoy life! Simple!

I'd put it in my CAF account (Charities Aid Foundation - www.cafonline.org/) and spend it on a cause.
This way I'd get the tax back in the same account and I can't benefit from it. The balance can only be givwn to a registered charity : )

I would invest it using Kiva. You can invest in up to 4 entrepreneurs @ $25 each... but I would try and ensure the projects don't involve the exploitation of animals...

Either that, or donate it to a charity like Veg Fam or the Vegan Society... or a charity helping to save animals from cruelty..

But in general, like most people in the world, if the $100 came straight to my hand I would also be tempted to spend to money on myself or on my friends. A couple of meals from Beatroot, the Chefs tasting menu at Saf etc etc would be very tempting...

Although I do give money to charity regularly, its so hard to tell how effectively charities use their money. A great new charity (New Philanthropy Capital) has been started to assess how well charities achieve their objectives (i.e. how many lives you will save with £1).... Spending £1 there may be the best place to ensure that other people get the most of their donations.. http://www.philanthropycapital.org/

An interesting debate about how to spend money (on yourself vs. saving people in developingcountries) is brought up in Peter Singers new book. An review by it, by Bill Easterly (a big aid critic) is http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123621201818134757.html

Thanks for the comment Sagar - Kiva.org is great and I have been a fan and giver there. I'm glad someone brought it up.

Getting water to places and helping developing countries learn and start entrepreneurial / business ventures themselves is what I find most important.
